Welcome to the home page of Selwyn Read, musician and model airplane enthusiast.

Selwyn began his flying career at an early age, when he started flying gliders aged just 4. He then moved on to 'control-line' flying during the 1950's around the time he served in the British Army.

Selwyn eventually started sailing remote control boats during the 1970's, and at one point held both the European and British speed record over 110 and 440 yards.

Having flown standard model aircraft for many years, at age 65 Selwyn began flying model jet planes, some reaching speeds in excess of 300mph! He is currently flying the Naval version of the Hunter Hawker and has plans to build an F-18 in the near future. Selwyns' previous jet planes include a twin engine F-15, an F-104 Starfighter (pictured), a GT-2000 and a Hotspot. He flies regularly and has recently been appointed Chief Examiner for the BMFA in 2007.

Selwyns' musical career has been just as busy, beginning at age 7 when he started learning to play violin. He has played in countless bands over the years, and at one point was credited as "the BBC violinist". This was recently discovered by Selwyns' daughter, Cordelia, in a programme from the 1950's! Although Selwyn is a classically trained violinist, he taught himself to play guitar and played Rock 'n' Roll during the late 1950's and early 1960's. He is perhaps best known for his virtuoso violin skills on the Country music circuit, where he has enjoyed success with bands such as Cargo and Shiloh. He is a multi-instrumentalist, and has also worked as a studio / live session musician playing electric violin, electric guitar and pedal steel guitar. He has also filled the roll of bass guitarist on a few occasions.

Currently, Selwyn is performing solo playing a variety of styles, particularly Country and Irish music. He also plays with the Ace High Band.
